Mountain of Strength

The awe inspiring majesty of mountains reminds me of women whose beauty is simply astounding. There isn’t a women on this planet who hasn’t been through some transformative experience that has helped make her who she is today.

Mountains are a show of incredible strength; incredible upheaval and incredible beauty - like most women

For me they are representative of continual growth. Some of the tallest mountains in the world haven’t stopped growing because they’ve reached phenomenal heights. Everest grows each year and while that growth may only be a millimetre, any athlete, expert or master in their field will tell you that once you have reached the top of your industry/sport/art, the growth can feel and often is micro but each micro second or fine adjustment and improvement makes a difference. It can be micro seconds that wins you gold. All growth, no matter how small is growth and maybe that micro-growth is what will take you from good to great. Never stop learning.

Mountains are representative of our ability to overcome. Like many women, Everest keeps growing despite the efforts of erosion as she is scoured by the elements. In toxic environments and against great odds, I see women achieving greatly. It is these women I want to cheer on; just as I want to be cheered on and believe that it is in this environment we will heal and grow together.

While we may think that once a woman has reached a certain fame, level of achievement or income bracket, she may be immune to the criticism or challenges we all face. This is simply not true. Even at such great heights she is not immune to the effects of the wind and the rain. Maybe it is at these heights that the elements are even more brutal.

Most of us will never ascend the face of such heights, we will never know exactly what it is like up there, just as we never know exactly what others are going through in their fame or their mundane.

Mountains hold, lakes, rivers, villages and towns just as women hold life, give life, sustain life.

Unfortunately (maybe, maybe not, who knows), we will never quite know if we would have got to where we are without the upheavals and transformative experiences we have been through. It is through seismic shifts that mountains achieve new form, new growth. Sometimes the more seismic the shift, the more majestic the outcome.

Women go through seismic shifts in their lives as they step from childhood into womanhood. Then again if they create, carry and birth humans beings, becoming a mother on all levels physical, mental, spiritual. To then change again during the peri-menopause and menopause stages of their lives. These shifts in hormones have a profound effect on our functioning and are moments of great adjustment and growth.

To me women are simply spectacular and to the mountains I look for my inspiration and my grounding. If we honour and acknowledge the journey of all; celebrate the highs and hold safe through the lows, every woman who comes across our path, we will have a safer, more healthy world for all.
