Feed Your Brain

Mental health struggles are not a failure of any kind and more often than not the causes are multifactorial and can't be fixed with mindset alone.

As the most metabolically active organ in your body, your brain requires a significant amount of energy and a regular input of nutrients to function optimally.

The production of energy requires us to have:

  • abundant & healthy mitochondria

  • a steady supply of nutrients to partake in the chemical reactions involved in producing ATP (adenosine triphosphate, our cells main energy source)

To function as they are designed to our brains need:

  • a steady supply of the nutrients involved in the production of neurotransmitters;

  • an abundant supply of antioxidants to combat the oxidative stress that results from our brains converting glucose into energy;

A wide range of nutrients and fibre also supports the diversity and health of our microbiome which produce anti-inflammatory metabolites that support our brain health.

This is for a healthy brain. The nutrient demands of a brain that is not functioning optimally, that needs to heal any metabolic and mitochondrial dysfunction or needs extra support in the synthesis and breakdown of neurotransmitters can be significantly higher.
